The Almost Truth Eileen Cook Books
Slight spoilers ****************************The Almost Truth is very well-written and the kind of book where even though I knew where the story was going, it was still fun to read. Sadie grew up on a small island near Seattle, in a dysfunctional family with a sweet mother with a loose hold on reality and a distant con artist father who has spent much of her childhood behind bars. Sadie's 18, has just graduated from high school and can't wait to leave her trailer-park life and head off to Berkeley in the fall. Sadie's dreams come crashing down when she finds out her mom used all the money that she saved to pay college expenses, to hire a lawyer to get her no good father out of jail.
Brendan is her best friend and confidant and has loved her since 7th grade. When Sadie realizes that she looks just like the age-enhanced picture of a toddler from a wealthy family who disappeared 15 years ago, she and Brendan try to come up with a plan that won't hurt anyone, but will get the money Sadie needs to attend school. Although parts of the story didn't make complete sense, overall it was a great read and I really enjoyed it.

The Almost Truth Eileen Cook Books Reviews
I've read all of Eileen's books, and this is her best work yet. Very enjoyable! I too "flog" her books to everyone I know, because I am proud to say we were friends in middle & high school! Congratulations Eileen on another winner.
.
I read for entertainment and this book delivered. Adorable and believable characters in a setting that holds your interest to the end.
This was a very well developed book. I felt the characters all had depth and certainly reflect what real people are like. I especially enjoyed the plot twists and the growth the main character showed as she evaluates what life has to offer (good and bad).
HOWEVER, I am not a fan of swearing or sex in my stories. This one had a little too much of both for my taste (I prefer 3 or less swear words and nothing in the way of clothes coming off) The setting of this story makes the inclusion of these elements understandable and maybe even necessary (omewhat along the lines of Memoirs of a Geisha, but not as well done), which is why I finished the book. But I will not be reading it again or recommending it to my friends.
Great book and exactly as described! No complaints )

Actual Rating 1.5 stars
The Almost Truth was an okay read. I guessed the plot line right away, and I didn’t really enjoy the romance at all. I wouldn’t reread this book or recommend it.
I love "The Almost Truth," and I love Eileen Cook as an author. She never fails to deliver a book that is true to life with well-developed characters, an interesting plot and an excellent sense of humor.
"The Almost Truth" explores the life of Sadie, a young woman desperate for her own independence after growing up in a challenging home. When her dreams are shattered, she goes about picking up the pieces by considering a well-crafted scam that manages to uncover a hard-to-face truth about her life. We get to know Sadie and her motivations through her actions and relationships - while she starts out willing to scam here and there, she eventually overcomes the regrettable bad habit and emerges a better person.
Though there is romance, it does not dominate this book. There are strong themes of acceptance, courage, family and independence, making for a powerful read.
The writing style is easy to read and as always, incredibly engaging. I recommend Eileen Cook's books very highly.
*3.5 Stars* Rounded down
I struggled with the rating. I enjoyed the story but I agree with another reviewer that the moral content is a bit much for a YA novel. Although that seems to be the rule instead of the exception these days.
The story itself is enjoyable and it keeps you guessing as to what is true and what isn't. It's not much of a romance but more of a family relationship novel. The ending had me frustrated. I feel like it ended at the climax and there was not much of a resolution.
*Minor potential spoilers* I feel like the whole time during the story we are waiting to see if this big event is going to happen and when it does the story ends. *Spoilers over.*
I don't not recommend it but just be prepared for feeling a bit bereft or deprived of something at the end. It ends with the reader wanting more but not in a good way.
Rating PG-13 for sex (some graphic words but there aren't any descriptions because the author cuts it off)
Medium to Low Re-Readability
