The Awakening Jeffrey Pierce 9781461003373 Books

Angels, demons, love, loss, heaven, hell , and love lost only to be reunited. This book has everything. If you read between the lines there is some very good philosophy and life lessons to learn. A section of the story takes place in my hometown and that was a nice treat to see. This book should be turned into a movie; I couldn't put it down once I started it. I will be thinking about everything in this book for a long time to come. Very well done!

The Awakening Jeffrey Pierce 9781461003373 Books Reviews

Once you start reading, you'll be hard pressed to put it down. I started reading it at 1130 in the morning and except for setting it down to go make lunch, I couldn't stop reading. I finished it up at 550 pm.

The characters are well developed and you feel yourself developing a kinship with them. As they face each decision or adventure, you feel as if you are right there with them trying to decide what to do or where to go.

This is one story you don't want to pass up!!
This is a wonderful love story with no ending--but many junctures when the two lovers are separated in different worlds of the universe. It is also an adventure between mankind and peoples of other worlds who love earth and have intermarried and produced children with special powers over the generations and other worldly creatures who live on fear and hatred and are out to destroy the earth. It is an exciting book that asks some deep philosophical questions that we ask ourselves everyday. I loved reading this book and got absolutely nothing done until I finished it--I kept putting it down and then picking it up again. I gave it five stars and really want to read the sequel---tried to find it on as it came out in 2012--but have not been able to find it. But will definitly buy the sequel when I find it and can download it on my kindle.
Wow, this was a book that I bought on a whim, and then couldn't put down once I started reading it. There are so many levels to this story, on the spiritual, theological levels, as well as simply on the regular, thriller novel reading level. This book was a thrilling read, and one that had me thinking about what was going on, and it's parallels to daily life after every chapter. Even if you aren't interested in the religion part of the story, just the surface story is enough to give you pause. But if you are someone, like me, who is interested in the story about angels and other heavenly bodies, then this book is totally mesmerizing.

This book will make you think, make you weep, make you scared, and make you want to keep reading. I highly recommend it.
I found myself holding my breath as I raced through the terrors of hell fleeing with Drew and Alicia from creatures and situations I could never have imagined. When Drew, Alicia and I finally find a temporary safe haven at the end of the book, I put it down, exhausted, and was able to begin to breathe normally again. A wild ride, filled with metaphors to contemplate long after.
This book was not a comfortable read. I neither enjoyed nor disliked this book. I finished only to find out what happened. But the unlikely circumstances appeared as convenient answers leaving the storyline rather shallow. Interesting, since I was left with the impression the book was attempting to be very "deep". I don't think I have any desire to read the following books in the series and wouldn't recommend it either.
Sorry. I really wanted to like this. The author's blurb that I read sounded great. Fallen angels, immortals, half-human-half angelic offspring etc. But of everything I have ever read with this premise, "The Awakening" was by far the least interesting and well written. The characters all act with no obvious motivation or rationale. Immortal Alicia, about whose personality we know nothing other than she once was in love with another immortal named Nathaniel, falls instantly in love and vice versa with a human, Drew, about whose personality we know nothing at al when they meet in a bathroom stall as Alicia is encouraging the vampiric murder of some other human by yet another character. Say what? Oh yeah, turns out that Drew had been having dreams because he is "of the bloodline" meaning that somewhere in his family tree was another of the immortal angels, called (annoyingly and repeatedly) "Old ones".

There is no basis for their mutual "to death and beyond" love since neither has any sort of personality described. Do they like the same books, movies, favorite color, music, Chinese food - who knows? fWe are given absolutely no insight into who they really are. The "rules" of the angels, their own origins, their relation to God or god or gods is never clearly spelled out, and their mission, other than disobeying God or god or gods is blurry ("everything is metaphor" is about as deep as things get). Heaven and Hell (Anchalla) are unclearly drawn (who goes where and why, and when etc.) and the whole thing is a muddled mess.

The writing is simple and the structure linear. The vocabulary is very, very basic. The writing isn't bad - there's much worse out there in the world of indie publishing- but it wasn't notably good either. There is nothing particularly scary about the horror scenes or erotic about the love scenes. The novel, was, unfortunately, boring and I couldn't wait to get to the end. I rarely stop reading something after I have completed 20% or so, but this time I was sorely tempted.

I cannot help comparing "The Awakening" to "Angelology" by Danielle Trussoni. Angelology has some problems of its own, but is a far superior piece of writing, plotting and pacing, and way more interesting, scary and romantic/erotic than is "The Awakening". Sorry, but I cannot find anything here to recommend, and 2 stars is probably one more than this novel really deserves.

Heaven and Hell. Good and evil. Angels and Demon's. What are angels? What is a fallen angel? The nature of reality. The potential of man. What is God? Who was Jesus Christ? THESE are the topics that Mr. Pierce tackles in his book, the awakening.

These themes are woven together by a plot around the destruction of the world through synthesis or combining the reality of angels and demons with our earthly reality. I LOVE books about the end of the world. This is a great vision of the end.

The ideas presented in this book will stay with me. I intend to read more of your works.
