Run had an interesting idea, but the execution wasn't my favorite. It was entertaining, but could have been much better. I am not quite sure exactly why but the writing was just off for me. It didn't really make me as involved with the story as I should have, though I did enjoy it well enough.

Charlotte remembers seeing a news story when she was younger, and is reminded of that when she starts doing some research for a new book. She stumbles upon what looks like a serial killer that no one has noticed yet. Over the years girls have been abducted and killed and no one has made the connection between them until Charlotte.

When Charlotte gets all her information in order she goes to the FBI to turn it over to them. She expects that to be the end of her involvement, only that is only the beginning. Shortly thereafter someone tries to get her and she is forced to run.

I did enjoy reading about her on the run. I loved how she tried to be smart about it, moving around and trying to make it so no one could find her. She isn't sure who to trust so she doesn't trust anyone until she has to. She can only go so far by herself, and really some of the info she acquires I find hard to believe would be that easy to access. Some of it was a bit unrealistic, but it was still fun. I just wish the writing wouldn't have been so stagnant for me so I would have really gotten into the story.

The ending was a bit too easy in a way, but eh. That was fine as it was just a light read for me. There is an obvious glaring problem that they don't address, but I think that is being left for the second book. It was just odd that it didn't come up after everything went down. One thing I did like **slight spoiler ahead** was that Charlotte and Jack, the FBI agent she works with, don't end up in love at the end. A lot of times author will throw people together like this, but I was pleasantly surprised when this one did not. It wouldn't have made a lot of sense if they would have gotten together so I enjoyed that. So it was an alright read, not as amazing as it could have been, but fun.

Run Charlotte Marshall Mysteries Book 1 edition by Becky Johnson Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

Old unsolved crimes are reopened by an authoress to track the culprit. The huntress becomes the hunted and gets stalked by the killer. The story describes how the authoress deals with such a difficult situation.
The writer has an excellent job in keeping the reader locked to the story.
The book kept me interested until the end. There were a few grammatical errors which, because I'm an English teacher, bothered me.
Light, fast thriller. Being that this story is so short, there is very little depth to the characters. We never find out why these girls were targeted. Two girls go missing, only one body is found.

It is not a cliff-hanger, more of a "is that it?" ending.

I doubt I will re-read this story. I am interested in other works by this author.
From the moment I started reading I was so involved that I didn't even realize the book was going to fast. My only complaint was that it ended way to soon. It was gripping and suspenseful and I didn't even have enough time to skip forward in the story to see what would happen (I confess I do that on occasion). I was so entrenched in the story all I could do was keep reading and hope everything worked out.
At first I was drawn in by the suspense and it was a quick read, but in some places does require a suspension of belief, especially re the main character Charlotte Marshall and her dogs. When she's making her escape I found it really drawn out and repetitive and using a nail to free her tied hands, especially the way they were tied. I don't think so.
Also the frequent use of brackets was like the author saying hold on and interjecting her own voice and I really disliked the use of numbers instead of spelling it out, which drew me out of the story, as in. 250 dollars and 5 shopping bags, etc. In one paragraph the author started a sentence with 'I' five times. Still I would have given it a three but for the epilogue, which I felt was rushed and turned into an exposition which left me cold, and the question of Georgia and her involvement was never answered satisfactorily.

For me, this is not a 'bad' read, it just needs to be tightened up and maybe loose a couple of chapters that don't move the story forward. The main character is quirky and bright and the concept is good.
A strong premise and an engaging narrator make this a fun, quick read, but it's hampered by some clunky dialogue , repetitive narration, and a tendency to get bogged down in irrelevant minutiae.

In spite of a couple of strong set-pieces, the bad guy never feels like a serious threat to the narrator and the reveal of his identity is a bit underwhelming. This is mostly because the narrator is able to move and research with relative ease aside from the initial events that drive her on the run and some boo-scares throughout.

The resolution suffers from being a bit rushed and for not addressing one of the major (possible) red herrings introduced that seemed so important as to be pivotal to this story. It seems as if it might be a dangling thread meant to lead into a sequel (which I think this character could support), but I also think this thread needed to be a bit more fleshed out and/or addressed in this book as it comes across as a bit of a bait and switch as it stands.

Still, this is a very readable first novel, and the author makes some interesting choices that distinguish her narrator as a strong and unconventional heroine.
There's one thing I love about reading. It's when you start reading and realize it's going to be one of those kind of books that's so hard to put down. A just one more chapter, before I have to get something done, but just can't stop at the end of that chapter! Also it's the kind of book that you don't want the story to end. But it does(

This author has you quaking in fear right along with the main character Char. She has no one to trust since she went to the FBI for help, only to be attacked soon after. She doesn't how she can go about finding the someone who can help her stay alive while the perpetrator is always on her heels.

This is a must read!
