When I was much, much younger I thought I was tough and mean. Boy, did I think I was mean. I always imagined myself telling somebody that was picking on me that if they didn’t leave me alone, I’d rip their arm off and beat them to death with it! I always thought that was just a “cool” thing to say. I can’t imagine ever doing something like that, but our author has his characters doing this all the time. I mean, androids ripping human arms off and then thrashing everyone in sight with it or our android hunters, who are human, rip off an android arm and beat them to death with it. Whoa, how gruesome! But that’s what happens in this book, a lot!

You see, we’re in the far, far distant future. Way beyond where androids were common place and used by their creators, humans, to do things humans didn’t want to do. And, humans built our androids so well, you almost can’t tell which is human and which is android on the outside, that is. Then one day, the Androids decided they were done doing what humans wanted them to do. They felt that humans had made them do way to many terrible, terrible things and now they were going to teach the humans a lesson. So the Androids apparently slaughtered a billion or more humans on a planet some eighty years ago. A billion! Since then, Androids have been hunted down and exterminated. A mistake that humanity should never have created.

Except the Androids don’t want to be exterminated and neither does the Primus Collective!

The story is great with a lot of high-tech action and fighting. You’ll meet the Android Hunters, a team of tactical specialist that have been “enhanced” to almost equal the strength of an Android. They hate Androids and terminate such on sight with a vengeance. The team you meet seems pretty well balanced. The characters are pretty well developed, but not every thing is clear about their past. You’ll find a kind of love story going on between two of the team members which is kind of interesting. And, then you’ll meet one Android that thinks he’s working directly for God. Yeah, he thinks he’s working for THE ONE AND ONLY, but of course he’s not. He’s just totally psycho, but he’s become the Android leader.

Lastly, there’s got to be a sequel. Too many things are left hanging at the end of this story to just let it go. And then there’s Corli. What is she going to do? Who’s side is she on? Heaven help us if she’s not on the side of the humans.

I really liked the book, but there are lots and lots of editorial mistakes. Missing words or bad grammar in almost every chapter and on almost every page. Sorry, but they are there and it distracts from the reading. Future books need to have a lot better editing as far as this reader is concerned.

Android Hunters The Corli Saga Volume 1 Jonathan Bergeron 9781680680027 Books Reviews

Android Hunters is a fast-paced, high action science fiction thriller. This debut novel shows that author Jonathon Bergeron is a writer to watch for. The beginning is a bit confusing, but the confusion quickly clears up. I found the characters believable and the plot intriguing. The book does not have a cliffhanger ending (I detest those!) but it does end with a scene that leaves the reader eager to read the next book in the series. This is recommended for readers who don’t mind a lot of bloodshed and enjoy a look at a dystopian but not post-apocalyptic future with lots of futuristic technology.
Thundering over the landscapes of utterly alien worlds, this story drops you onto the front lines of a supercharged secret war between condemned androids and their human hunters, who must inject doses of concentrated enhancers to level the playing field against their physically superior quarry. Following a deadly android uprising, humankind determined their creations to be intolerable hazards, while the androids hold their creators accountable for the egregious sin of playing God. In the eyes of the androids, all of humanity is guilty for crimes against the universe that should rightfully be avenged by the slaughter and subjugation of the species.

Alternating perspectives from both the hunters and the hunted lends itself well to a paradoxical setting, where religious fanaticism and ultraviolence rage through U.N. sanctioned green zones where environmental awareness and beautification are of the highest priority. It’s almost as though partisanship has evolved toward a state of integration where the extremes of both sides have prevailed, and have somehow melded together into a mutually obsessive symbiosis, where the beauty of the outward form is held in highest regard.

When I discovered the book, my first thought was Blade Runner, my all-time favorite film, but any comparison beyond the fundamental similarity is quickly nullified. Android Hunters is a high-tech, first-person shooter, where every possible parameter is pushed to the max. Extreme bodies, extreme weapons, and extreme personalities collide, often with graphic consequences. Beneath the line of fire, there is a deeply philosophical and spiritual layer inherent in the viewpoints and flashbacks of both castes of characters. These personal snapshots become as much an integral part of this story as every minute of the carnage. Definitely recommended!
Pros

This whole story is a blender baby of many sci fi things I like! One part Crazy AI god, a loveable team of special ops characters that reminded me of the early days of Honor Harrington meets Joel Shepherds "Cassandra Kresnov" books. Please note I am extremely bias to cyberpunk, androids and anything Bladerunner infused. So this whole setup was my cup of Joe.

I loved the AIRS squad banter. Reminded me of my years with the Navy. Spot on stuff!

I whole heartedly blame recommendations/countdown deals for inflicting more financial wallet pain.

Cons but in a good way

Tartarus don't do the thing! Why do I have the feeling this guy is going to be put through the blender later. He's useful to his boss now but for how long? In fact he reminds me of Batou from Ghost in the Shell but without much human empathy. Although he has reasons to hate humanity.

Corli please don't destroy humanity. We have some redeeming features! I swear! Can't wait to see how things will develop in the next book for her.

Cons

Can I have a sequel? Go forth fellow book nerds! Find more gems like this and let it multiply!
